Notice of Availability for Public Commentfor Proposed Improvements at Laughlin Bullhead International AirportBullhead City, Arizona

The Mohave County Airport Authority (MCAA), as sponsor of the Laughlin Bullhead International Airport, intends to construct a row of T-hangars on the airport’s general aviation (GA) apron, which will be used for the storage for aircraft. These hangars would be partially situated within a 500-year floodplain. The affected floodplain’s existing natural and beneficial values include flood water storage and conveyance. MCAA is seeking Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding and approval of an action occurring in a 500-year floodplain. Alternatives to locating the project outside of the 500-year floodplain were considered. However, the only GA apron area located outside the floodplain is a central portion of the apron currentlyused for air ambulance helicopter services. After reviewing alternative siting options outside of the floodplain, there are no practicable alternatives. In addition, the proposed buildings would meet applicable flood design standards. The public is being provided with an opportunity to provide comments on the proposed project and its potential effects on the 500-year floodplain.
